When we were in Hawaii, I was hoping to find a local couple to connect with but was having no luck, until a friend linked me up with Syd (who actually used to live in Spokane) and Karmin.
You would never know Syd lived anywhere else, the way she casually walked barefoot on rocks and naturally gravitated towards swinging on tree branches. Together, Syd + Karmin took us on a little adventure to their secret spot, down a muddy trail and into the lush green of a Hawaii that is equally as stunning as the beaches.
Hen immediately fell in love with both of them and their playfulness and ability to relate to his excitement on our super covert mission and even got into the cold water towards the end. I didn’t notice until later but, along the way my lens got smudged from the humidity and climbing, but it added to the magic somehow.
It was the briefest of encounters but truly connecting in the way that only kindred hearts meet. We walked back chatting like friends of many years, Karmin picking up guavas and both girls barefoot, having lost their sandals somewhere on the trail and vowing that someone else who needed them more would find them. Finding new friends was the best part; the added bonus was the surroundings. Hen can’t wait to write to his new penpals and we promised we will be back to visit for more adventures.
We fell in love instantly. That goes without saying. It’s see you later and never goodbye.
